During an economic forum organized by the Development Agency of Harghita County several problems related to the return of mothers from maternity leave have emerged.
Most of these problems come to the surface only when one enters into conversation with mothers who want to be re-employed after maternity leave. The law on the re-employment of mothers after maternity leave have already been modified, and a few positive changes have been made, but it could not solve some basic problems – said Csaba Barabas, director of the Development Agency of Harghita County. The most important change would be not to oblige employers to re-employ mothers returning from maternity leave but to facilitate them to do so. This change can only be made through the contribution of the state. Employers offen re-employed mothers returning from maternity leave only for one day. Now that the law will oblige them to re-employ mothers for at least 6 months, this obligation might easily have negative effects on the employment of women who are planning to have children – said the director.
Therefore, the Development Agency of Harghita County is planning to elaborate a proposal to modify the law on the re-employment of mothers after maternity leave, togehter with senator Barna Tanczos and member of parliament Attila Korodi.
President of Harghita County Council, Csaba Borboly says: it is not enough to just talk about combating imigration and creating new jobs, we must do something to have mother-friendly and also entrepreneur-friendly laws, which encourage women to have children and entrepreneurs to create new jobs. The president of Harghita County Council has offered his support in the Agency's initiative.
In the following weeks, the Development Agency initiates consultations with the employers and the mothers on maternity leave, but everybody can express their opinion and suggestion by filling in the online form created for this purpose:
